Millions around the world have been intrigued about the Shroud of Turin, for many hundreds of years believed to have been the actual burial linen Jesus of Nazareth was resurrected in. But it wasn't until 1898 that it was actually photographed from above, shocking the world, as the image on the cloth is a NEGATIVE one, which first, resulting photographic negative produced a POSITIVE image of a crucified man. Really, this remarkable artifact, containing the world's first known photographic negative, is embedded in the very top fibers of a cloth, which was long thought to be Jesus Resurrection shroud, with a weaving technique now proven to have been used nearly 1,950 years before photography was invented? And in the modern era, scientists have discovered other, inexplicable, astonishing details of a crucified man on the cloth - not FLAT, but having three-dimensional spatial imagery, and horrific wounds PERFECTLY matching the descriptions of Jesus scourging, wounds and crucifixion found in the Bible. It even has microscopic pollens on it, ONLY found in the Jerusalem area in the spring of the year - the timing of Jesus' Crucifixion - an impossible thing for an ancient - and especially, supposed European forger - to even have known about or understood!

Note: Yes, this was published today in the Daily Mail - a UK tabloid - but it nonetheless it provides a very good summary of the impressive evidences scientists have discovered concerning the Shroud - the world's most scientifically studied artifact. The Shroud is also an artifact that even modern science has been unable to replicate with today's technology, much less figure out how this extraordinary image of a crucified man could have come to be embedded on the cloth in ancient times. In fact, this is perhaps the best short summary of the Shroud's evidences I've come across.

I also think it might be worth noting that, initially, I personally was extremely skeptical about the Shroud, per the little I knew about it. And then there was a fellow here on G&S that steered me to the incredible scientific evidences and exhaustive analysis done on the Shroud that totally changed my mind. Later, I learned that the widely reported Carbon dating of the Shroud had been taken from areas of a medieval REPAIR around the edges. It has now been conclusively proven that the Shroud itself is 2,000 years old, clearly showing weaving techniques and analysis revealing it's actual period of creation. Even more so, for me, it's the miraculous aspects of it - having a perfect image that can't be replicated today, of an ancient man with wounds perfectly matching Scripture - that just so happens have been in Christian hands and long asserted to have been the Shroud of Christ, hundreds of years before the advent of photography. Collectively, the evidence makes me believe this IS the actual Shroud of Jesus, powerfully imbedded upon the cloth at His moment of Resurrection from the dead. And God has miraculously preserved it for us (it has survived TWO fires) living in the modern, scientific age, as a powerful witness of the greatest event in human history!
