Recent horrors in Syria between opposing Islamic factions turn western Syria into fresh killing fields against Christians and other minority groups! - but WHY?
A religion of PEACE??? While there are undoubtedly peaceful Muslims found across the world, nonetheless, it's specific Islamic teachings of Muhammad, found in the Quran, that are ultimately what are driving this month's killing and violence in Syria. And those teachings are also THE commonality driving aggressive, violent Islamic factions found around the world! See the video at the bottom of this post for and eye-opening discussion and analysis of this issue!
New, horrific Syrian violence began in early March!
Earlier this month, across western Syria's coastal region, clashes between the new Syrian government's forces and pro- (ousted dictator) Assad forces, violence erupted and quickly escalated, resulting in the killing of 745 civilians, 125 government security forces, and 148 pro-Assad militants. The violence began when pro-Assad gunmen took control of Qardaha, ex-dictator Assad's hometown, and then Syrian government forces retaliated - slaughtering countless civilians in the process. Reuters reports that thousands of people, including Christians and Alawites, have fled the coastal region to nearby mountains for safety. Over the 13 years of civil war, the Christian population in Syria has drastically fallen, of which The Syrian Observer estimates only approximately 300,000 remain.
In December 2024, the ex-Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime and hereditary rule collapsed after a major offensive by opposition forces, supported primarily by the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army, as part of the ongoing Syrian civil war that began in 2011. And the violence continues. The previously ruling Assad family came from the tribal Alawite community of western Syria's coastal region (the area currently experiencing widespread violence), from which the fallen dictatorship heavily recruited to make up factions within the military, intelligence bureaucracies, and security apparatuses. And so, the new violence is primarily between this Islamic group and the forces of the new Syrian government.
Islamic movements and powers are constantly at odds, waging, often violent, power struggles
Just as when the Shah of Iran fell in 1979, and later, Saddam Hussein was toppled in Iraq, Islamic factions were soon to swoop in to assert their power into the resulting vacuum. In fact, there are a variety of competing and often violently opposing Islamic governments, militia's and movements found across the Middle East and Muslim world. These many Islamic factions and political powers are each dedicated to following differing offshoots of Islam, with each asserting their ruling authority to be descended more authentically from the Quran, as originally given by the Prophet Muhammad.
But it's not just in Syria, Iran, Iraq, etc, nor is it merely Islamic frictions with Western governments and powers - as warfare and violence has long been common between, and exhibited by, various Islamic groups.
So, what IS actually driving the violence behind the various Islamic factions - does the Quran and its prophet command peace or violence? See the answer below!
