So, did we always have people with mental illness about, and just didn't know what it was to diagnose officially? Was the guy with "Legion" simply autistic and they didn't know what autism was
The answer is 'Yes'. Note that demon possession was usually invoked as an explanation for medical conditions for which there was no visible cause.
No one was ever possessed by the 'demon of broken legs'.

A recent encounter that I've heard was that one worker went hysterical for a while, before "it" left her & another went hysterical. Altogether, about 4 workers spread across the facotry floor was "possess" in quick succession. A witch-doctor was called & the place cleansed. However, it was rumoured that the incident had occur earlier in a neighbouring factory.
So my thots is that, after the demon was "caste out", would it continue it's mischief on someone else.

I don't think they do need a body. They can manifest still and interact with the living. This thread actually can be merged with mine about supernatural experinces.
Yes u have to b careful, they can return. The bible mentions this, but good thing is we have good spirits to help us.
