Re: When Did Adam Live?

If you like 5000-6000 years ago, you'll probably like this.... As I've mentioned throughout this thread I am becoming more and more convinced that the historic Adam and Eve did live sometime around 5000 - 6000 BC. However, I do also subscribe to the standard scientific age of the universe of around...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Perhaps the story of Adam and Eve was never meant to be taken literally? I guess that depends on what you mean by "taken literally". Does the Bible treat Adam and Eve as historical people? Absolutely - The most blatant use of Adam as a historical person is the role he plays in geneologies...

Re: Can Science Discover God?

Yes... it can... and it has! :) Psalm 19:1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood throug...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

That is all well and good and kind of "old news" for Rick and I ( we both believe the flood to be local if I recall correctly) BUT that doesn't address the core of Rick's issue: All humans sin so why would God only kill some? Paul I believe you have already pointed out the reason... If I ...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Lemme ask you guys who are either TE, or contemplating it...especially PaulS, because iirc Paul, you said that you believe Noah's flood was local. Well... I'm not TE, and I'm not contemplating it either (Michael Behe has presented too much biological evidence to demonstrate that you just can't get ...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

3. What was the spiritual state of those humans in the rest of the world prior to the Fall? Still struggling with that one... Ideas would be appreciated. According to Romans 5:12 mankind had not experienced sin prior to the Fall, but Genesis 3 gives us some additional insight. The tree in question ...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

As I mentioned in the OP I don't have all the answers here. I think I'm pretty solid both Scripturally and historically on the timeline, but I'm still working my way through the theological implications of this timeline on the Fall of Man in Genesis 3. Can I ask you if you believe that the original...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Hi Paul, Well, I think there are still some areas where we don't quite see eye to eye yet. But it does look like we are in a position to explore the implications of an area where we do appear to be relatively close. The historical Adam and Eve in Genesis 2 were distinct in space and time from the Ge...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Looking at Genesis 1 and 2 and not adding any presuppositions, the most natural reading seems to be: Genesis 1 is an account of the creation of the planet and all life on it in general. Genesis 2 is a specific account of the creation of life in a specific local, The Garden in Eden and of the specia...

http://www.nature.com/news/genetic-adam-and-eve-did-not-live-too-far-apart-in-time-1.13478 Seems like science might be getting on the right path (optimistic I am) :D Hi SSH, I am very fascinated about any evidence that can give us additional insight into our genetic progenitors. Mitochondrial Eve a...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

I think that the statement of "when you eat of this, on this day you will die" leads us to the understanding that Adam's MORTAL life began at that moment. Of course Nowhere is this explicitly stated. Let me provide some additional Scriptural support for a statement I made earlier in this ...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

We don't know precisely adam and Eve were in the Garden, but I think Scripture does give us enough information to establish an upper limit. Genesis 5:3 says When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Set...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Of course that only applies to his time AFTER the Garden of Eden. We have NO idea how long he was in the Garden for. We don't know precisely adam and Eve were in the Garden, but I think Scripture does give us enough information to establish an upper limit. Genesis 5:3 says When Adam had lived one h...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Interesting discussion, but I'm still not sure why Adam must have been from 6000 years ago. Why not longer? The 4000 BC to 6000 BC time frame comes from two sources that line up pretty closely. 1. The first evidence is the internal Scriptural evidence. Depending on how you do the math and whether y...

Re: When Did Adam Live?

Why NOT have Adam and Eve Being the actual 1st people that God created? I guess the primary reason is that I don't believe Scripture makes that claim anywhere. And if Scripture doesn't make that claim, then I don't think I should be making claims for Scripture that it doesn't make for itself. When ...
