Good Information, Thanks.
Thanks for the follow-up. It helps to increase my understanding which was based only on this one book. It seems there are others with a broader scope of reading his works who have concluded much the same. Higher criticism is a very hard test for many. There are times I (almost) wish I didn't know as...

Just a couple of Questions
I know how I answer the questions below as an Old Earther. I'd like to know how my Young Earth brothers and sisters answer them. I'm not trying to trap you but I may have some follow-up questions. 1. Genesis 1 - The Fourth Creation day. How do you explain 24 hour days from day 1 - 3 when the astrono...

Nice post though I take issue with this. Inference is not the realm of science. Science is very much about inference it is what lead to fruitful hypohtesis. Inference certainly can be part of the process. Science cannot by definition accept inference as a conclusion. And yet the leading theory of o...

It really is insignificant ultimately
Yes, it is pretty insignificant ultimately. It's not cardinal. My beef is that the YEC crowd has attempted to make it so. I think they've hit their high-water mark and they ultimately have overplayed their hand.
But then that's the human in me talking.

I think you're missing it a little.
I think in the long run we're making a mistake by attempting to reintroduce religious thought in the realm of science rather than allowing it to be what it is. Let me play devil's advocate for a minute and follow this line of thought. What if science shows that there must be a god-like entity? Shou...

Intelligent Design
I for one am an old earth creationist. I think what is happening with the Intelligent Design movement is pretty much an attempt to by-pass the separation of Church and State in the Public Schools which I happen to disagree with as it is currently applied. I think in the long run we're making a mista...

Thanks
I used to be YEC when I was younger. I think it's not a real consistent position but it's not a cardinal area of belief despite how important it is and the areas it touches on. My issue was I was in the Southern Baptist Denomination and pretty much completely discounted in my gifts and ministry and ...

Thanks - Musings on Gof T and parallel
Thanks Jac. I did put up a post on the Gospel of Thomas on another thread that gives my thoughts. In general, the G of T generated a lot of excitement early on because there were those who hoped it represented the Q document that has been imagined to exist and provide the quotes of Christ to the Gos...

Book Review of Bart Ehrman's "Misquoting Jesus"
This is a book review I posted on Amazon a few weeks back. It's been received pretty well, even by non-Christians. Feel free to interact with me on it if you like. Bart (not Ehrman!) _____________________________________________________ This is the first book of Ehrman's I have read. I found it inte...

Gospel of Thomas
Interesting topic line and one I may be able to contribute to. I am a few courses shy of a degree in Biblical Literature. I did my Senior Thesis on an exegetical comparison of Parallel passages from the Gospel of Thomas and Matthew 13. To do that, I had to do some translation from the language the G...

Saying Hello
I am beginning to participate in this community. I am a 43 year old male who lives in Northern Virginia and contracts for the US government. I'm originally Canadian. This is a career change for me as I've served as a pastor, district worker and church administrator in the past. I'm ordained with the...

OUCH!
:? I truly feel for this circumstance in a special way for several reasons. 1. I am a cancer survivor myself for 20 years now. 2. My Father died of cancer on Christmas Morning 2004. 3. As a former pastor, I've been trained as a Chaplain for the American Cancer Society and ministered to many afflicte...
