Brother ill

I'd appreciate prayer about my brother - he is diabetic and was suddenly admitted to the hospital last night with an infection in his foot. The doctors say he could lose a toe or part of his foot. He's single, and not good at letting family know what is going on.

Thanks, guys!

Thanks, Rick! They just did an MRI and are going to do a biopsy - not sure why the delay for the MRI. This has to be very stressful not knowing what to expect. He's a Christian (all four of my siblings are) - so, I know he's depending upon the Lord.

As of this morning, no additional news - perhaps a good thing. Seems he's getting excellent care and caution.

Thanks, Blessed, and for all praying! Here's what I know, as of last night: The doctors want him to lose his small toe. However, they say he could go home with an anti-biotic drip port, which would give him about a 60% chance of curing the infection. As long as its monitored, there doesn't seem to be a down side to trying this first. Course the doctors want to lean on preventing any spread - which taking the toe would insure. So, he wants to give it a try that it might heal. Course, he could end up losing it anyway. At one point they said he could also lose a bit of the edge of his foot. He's a Type II diabetic - which I didn't realize could develop such a situation (thought it was only Type 1s). I think they are going to biopsy once more before letting him try the antibiotic route.

Looks like they are sending my brother home with a antibiotic catheter drip. He says they give him a 50% chance of eliminating the infection and preventing toe removal. He told me he and his "pinky" greatly appreciate your prayers!

All this time, I thought the thread title was about your brother Bill, but you forgot to put the "B".

If he has type 2 diabetes tell him to google "Dr. Jason Fung." It can be reversed.

I will pray for his healing, amen.

Not all type II's are reversible. It depends on whether or not the pancreas is still capable of producing enough insulin on its own. My wife and I are both diabetic (T2). When I was diagnosed over a decade ago I was able to contain it with diet and exercise for a few years but eventually I had to resign myself to the fact that I needed medication (though not insulin, so far).

Philip, hope and pray your brother is doing better. y[-o<

Thanks so much for your prayers, everyone!

My brother is now finally home with a cane and an antibiotic drip - they will monitor the infection while trying this for six weeks. His surgeon wanted to amputate at least his toe. His doctor wanted him to try to cure the infection first - and as it's not exactly like a bad haircut that will regrow, I'm glad he's trying to save the toe. Not sure how losing it might affect his walking or balance? I think it's also a time for him to learn more about prayer and staying close to God. So, as you guys remember, please continue to pray for his infection to be healed. I had to take daily IV antibiotics for 4 months, many years back - so I know just how tired they make you. Plus, he's still trying to work (he's a programmer).
